Just imagine it – a dark sky filled with shimmering lights of reds, blues, greens and yellows – they shimmer and pulsate as they adorn the sky with an otherworldly elegance. There are a variety of ways and places from where to see the Northern Lights but we think that one of the best ways to see them as a single traveller is to see them whilst travelling by ship through icy Arctic waters. Though if you’re not ready to board just yet – take a look at our selection of the best places in the world to see the northern Lights below.
We know that many singles find it difficult to make the first steps when it comes to travelling, but from our research, we’ve found that many who feel most at ease, are those whose first journey is either specifically for their age group – so for example an over 50′s singles holiday to Asia, or secondly those that try a singles cruise. We think that cruising is a great choice for singles of all ages, but especially for over 40′s/ 50′s who love to travel but have, for whatever reason, had to stop. Here we present a complete beginners guide to what to expect on a singles cruise – perfect for anyone.
We know that Salem is not on the top of everyone’s travel wish list – but this sleepy little town is a fantastic travel destination right in the middle of America’s New England on the shores Massachusetts Bay. It’s perfect for over everyone – from 20 somethings seeking an energetic and incredibly unique autumn break to over 50′s singles searching for a laid back locale to explore – rich in history and culture, from witches to ships to art that enchants all who travel here still to this day. That’s not all of course…. it is after all almost Halloween….
We love train travel, the sounds of the train rushing down the track, the view of the changing landscapes out of the windows and the announcements that change in tone and language the further you go. We think a great way for single travellers, especially the over 50’s amongst you, to get to grips with singles travel is to go by train. There are plenty of options of course – whether that’s an organised singles holiday across India or a group holiday with friends. We recently took a long train ride all the way from London to Venice – not by the Venice Simplon, but via Eurostar and taking in beautiful cities like Lyon along the way. Here is our guide.
Single travel can be a bit daunting – but you know what we say- jump in! Immerse yourself and get over any negative feelings. There’s plenty of options but we find that getting involved in something such as a history tour, wine tour or our favourite a singles ski holiday is one of the best ways to let go and have fun. We love the French Alps – ah Mégeve and Chamonix – beautiful, great skiing, social restaurants and incredible food (look away now if you don’t enjoy a pot or two of fondue) - with it’s great slopes and charming little towns – but others like Italy, Switzerland and Austria are also great options.
We think that singles travel comes in all shapes and sizes – it isn’t just about meeting people, or spending time on a tour discovering sites and eating local foods – it’s about doing what you love – whether by yourself, in a group or even accidentally as you go by your day. So whether you want to meet new people, learn a new skill, climb a mountain or eat the best of foods we have a few suggestions here for what we think make up some of the most enticing and most fun singles holidays available.
There are a staggering 1400 (and counting..) islands that make up the majority of Greece’s spectacular coastline – from the inviting white sands of Mykonos to the dramatic and awe-inspiring mountains of Rhodes and of course all the vibrant restaurants, lively bars and all-night clubs in-between. We’ll cover all of these in more detail further down the line but here are the islands we think you should be visiting in 2015.
New York is a busy and vibrant city – it’s culturally diverse and easily divisible into 5 distinctive boroughs – that come filled with numerous museums and galleries, shopping destinations, Arenas and coffee shops that will take you to another time – making you feel as though you’re sat right in the middle of Woody Allen’s Manhattan.
